Flower Carpet 2026: 20,800 visitors for Japan on the Grand-Place of Brussels

Japan was honored on the Grand-Place of Brussels from August 13 to 16, 2026, for the 24th edition of the Flower Carpet. I was there, and the outcome is magnificent.
Approximately 20,800 people visited the balcony of the City Hall of Brussels to admire the carpet installed on the Grand-Place between Thursday and Sunday, revealed the event's organization.
Under the sign of 160 years of Belgian-Japanese relations, the 750,000 dahlias that composed the design imagined by artist Hiro Sugiyama also attracted "tens, even hundreds of thousands of visitors" from around the world.
Covering an area of 1,680 square meters, making it the largest flower carpet in the world, the Flower Carpet once again showcased all the beauty of our capital and made the Grand-Place shine far beyond the country's borders.
Inspired by Hokusai's Great Wave off Kanagawa, the motif combined tradition, flowers, and Japanese symbols. A huge thank you to the volunteer teams, horticulturists, and all those who, every year, keep this unique Brussels tradition alive.
